World Aids Day 2011
This past sunday, we held an open photoshoot to all friends and supporters to stand in solidarity for the support of World AIDS Day. AIDS stands as a leading killer in the African-American community. African Americans sum up more than 50% new cases of AIDS/HIV, while only holding a 12% stake in the US population.
Know your status, because knowing is beautiful. This month, we are banding together to generate awareness and promote testing to fight against the spreading epidemic. Thank you to all those who came out to recieve their new profile pictures! If you did not make it! Please post a photo of one of your friends’ in support! As well as tweet about it! #WAD2011!! Many other opportunities will present themselves as the month goes on! Be on watch!

i’ll collect the sunrise
since my sunny
72 degrees exist only in my
daydreams.
the warmth is
a recollection of my imagination
yet my realities
are too arctic to understand
save this speech
as if i wrote it on
your pillow:
“its gotten
hard.
to escape
her.”
and even harder to avoid the
cumulus clouds of complications forecasted
in this,
brainstorm.
still soaking from
her secrets i was
her combination
etched her puzzle
in my mahogany chest
lost her
confessions in my complexity and
confused actualities like
a summertime snowflake
then melted
the memories of us and
let the logic
linger.
focusing
only on the forgotten
flavors of her asphalt aspirations
i’m stuck scraping
hours in the concrete
because i have hard time
understanding how
this could even happen
theoretically.
it’s the chronic flashbacks
i experience when i close my eyes.
these old habits itching
inside me constantly infect my desires:
they are
the side effects from
craving just
one.

a cardiac cadence and

An Artistic Insanity Update
As some of you may or may not have known the other half of The Artistic Insanity & the head man over at JCi Creatives, @MrCollinZZ took his talents to Italy for the month of July. Take a few minutes to hear about his first day and see some of his shots.
As you may or may not have known, this past school year, I made a major decision to do something not uncommon for the college student, but very uncommon for me. I made a decision to venture out from home and much like the late King James “Take my talents” to Italy.
Since the decision, it seems as if it were God’s will for me to make it here because I was blessed with many supporters who paved a way for me to do something so few of my peers have had the opportunity to do. I must, first, before I go any further, send a thank you to each and every person who cared enough for me and my journey to poor into me. Thank you all so very much!
From there, a total 10+ hour flight ensued as I made my way to my first destination Roma, Italy. (Rome… for the slow.) Since I’ve been here, I’ve been indulged in the culture and I must admit I’m still working to make sense of it all. And having some very funny moments while doing it. For example:
My first day here… I got off the plane and as any usual traveler would I found a way to my hotel. Well… I decided to invest in a cab assuming fair was like $75 bucks… High Side… Well, I find a very nice english speaking Italian man who cuts me a deal to get me there for $100…. Obviously, taking advantage of my tourist-isms lol.. As we walk to his cab, I begin to notice signs of his non-cab driver-ness…. Such things like… The lack of a cab with a meter… And the fact that his car was parked in a lot about 5 minutes from the front door. Needless to say, once I was in the car and he had my money all but in his hand, he went straight italian on me. All of a sudden, he understood NO ingles and I was stuck for the ride.
As we drive, I begin to notice very unfamiliar traffic signs and start to see that they don’t seem to be very familiar to him either as his driving indicates that he follows none of the rules! LOL He drove over all lanes going about 160 at all times. As I hold on for dear life, I pray we get there safe and I see my family again some day. Ironically, I found out that that’s not just his driving, but a common thing in Italy. Traffic instructions are more so suggestions than laws and regulations. They tend to play by their own rules. I’m surprised there aren’t many accidents.
We finally made it to my hotel, The Hotel Carravagio, and I begin to get my bags then go to his side to pay. All of a sudden, he’s an English speaker again, and the language he’s talking is way more than the money he mentioned in the beginning. All of a sudden the price has jumped dramatically. And me, trying to get inside, like a fool I pay into his hustle.
But all was not lost… Because now, I was at my destination. I looked up and considered this my welcome to Rome.

We have some big news for you here at The Artistic Insanity. Sometimes listening to the radio, you hear the same popular artists getting all the radio play. Sadly, quite often lesser known artists with quality music get overlooked. Well we teamed up our favorite DJ and decided to make a mixtape. No, neither of us at The Artistic Insanity will be dropping any bars, but rather we’ve decided to compile a list of our favorite up and coming musicians. I’m not afforded the luxury if saying too much more, just know our taste in music hasn’t let you down yet so expect big things. I have one more final thing to say….

Yo! This is Jaren C. Collins of the Artistic Insanity here… And I must say, I feel that in the past, We, here at Artistic Insanity as well as at JCi, have been putting out some pretty dope shit… We do our best to give you the latest and greatest in music. Keep you up on Game. Style Tips. Photography. And, occasionally, we even put our friends on. What can I say… It’s a beautiful life, right?
Right!! We’ve been goin at this for a minute, and as it’s been said before– We just do Dope Shit– But, now, I think it’s time to get our Super Mario brother’s and 1up these cats!
This summer, The Artistic Insanity have a few things planned that we know will give you something DOPER than ever before. New shoots! New people! New places! New things! And I’m starting off this series with a new person to the mix– My Boo Thang Azi!– (That’s just my name for her… Don’t trip, I’m still single lol) Check out just a few reasons as to why She’s DOPER and why WE’s fixna be DOPER.

“Man, you must have a nice camera.”
Jaren & I hear this countless times. For some strange reason, people have this idiotic misconception that the photographer is just using a magical camera that seemingly does the work for him or her. Newsflash. Its usually the complete opposite if I handed you a Canon 7D right now you would almost instantly say, “I don’t know how to use this.” This isn’t to say that we’re master photographers by any means we’re just asking that you respect the craft. I found this video on Jeremy Biggers personal blog. He’s personally one of my favorite photographers. The video shows that no matter what the tool, a good photographer will ALWAYS make quality work. I personally don’t even consider myself that good of a photographer, however I’ve seen Jaren get behind a lens and produce amazing shots. It is unarguable that a good camera and great equipment will produce better results, but that’s not to say that if you don’t have both of those you’re completely out of luck. Go out there and try something different. Don’t use the fact that you may of may not have a good camera as an excuse. Practice truly does make perfect.
Some say we’re VANE!
I know I know.. That’s not the correct spelling but there’s a method behind the madness and a meaning to it all. VANE Magazine, creation of Vanitee Promotions and our very own Jaren C. Collins, has successfully launched itself it to the socialite stratosphere of Oklahoma City. As Oklahoma City continues to rise, through play off contending sports teams and promotion propaganda, VANE Magazine intends to follow the strides in a phenomenal display of professional style and taste with eye catching swagger.
The Artistic Insanity is not only proud to have a co-owner of VANE amongst its ranks but also to grace the evening with a little dose of our photography stylings. The night VANE launched, our very own Phillip “Pheno” Buggs manhandled the lenses and came out with a few dope shots. Also in the building, our brother from another mother, LaVelle Compton of C3 Visions.
