Its Been A Long Time

My bad. Life got busy. I’ll keep up with posting the regular music and videos. However, this time around its gonna be a lot more personal.

Oh, and ladies, 1st & 15th from @JustAriii is coming back sooner that you think.

Ignore the awkward family picture pose. Its the only picture I have of both of us.

If you want to keep up with either of us, the Twitter usernames are @ArtisticInsaniT & @JustAriii. Same for Instagram as well.

It’s Been Awhile…

Well, first off… my apologies for the slight disappearance. School got busy, my phone broke and then I just started enjoying life. Over the past month, I’ve been in Norman a lot catching up with friends I don’t see enough. I’m slightly procrastinating this paper, but I’ll get started right after this post. I should have taken more pictures, but like I said, things got hectic.

I picked up some LeBron’s Leonidas gave me awhile ago ,

Stevie bought me a Bulls shirt, which now is one of my favorite possessions.

Had the chance to catch up with @iamOralB for a bit. Always a pleasure. Hung out with Mickey & Chelsea a lot before I dropped Mickey off to go to Houston. .

She came back with different hair.

Fast forward past all the papers and tests to Thanksgiving break. Soon as my test was over I went to Norman played endless games of 2K13 with the homies, found a pho joint in Norman, (Pho Winner is pretty live) and came back a few days before Thanksgiving. Had fun with the fam as always on Thanksgiving and headed back to OKC/Norman with @MrCollinZZ for a MMG concert. He ended up with free tickets and let me tag along. Jaren’s always looking out for me. Gotta appreciate big brothers. Twas a good night. Ended up going back down the turnpike and coming back to Norman that same day (don’t ask.) Sunday, I chilled and hooped in the Huff for 4 hours or so. Weather changed dramatically from the time I went in and came out so now I’m sick. Saul good though. Monday, I was drugged up on Benadryl so I slept all day.Monday night, I was up and well enough to go to the event which was the reason I was in Norman this weekend. Congratulations to the homie @typical_g.

Much appreciation to @BigDaddyCaine for always being a willing roadtrip partner.

Channel ORANGE Review

Usually, I write the reviews but I outsourced this one to long time friend and writer Jordan Marks. Enjoy.

Now for obvious reasons, orange is my least favorite color. It’s below every
feminine color that exists. But I won’t hold that against this artistically crafted
album, “channel ORANGE” by Frank Ocean.

Ocean prefaced the early released album with a story of love via his Tumblr (http://
25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m6me6uSdO81qdrz3yo1_1280.png
). This story made
many of Ocean’s fans question his sexuality and therefore, as many have done with
gay issues, they turned their backs on the musician. I can honestly say, with a story
like this, I was even more excited to listen to “channel ORANGE.”

The feel of this album is fitting for Frank Ocean: quarter ‘til ten in a back alley
jazz lounge where only true music fans go to escape with their vice of choice.
Understanding what he was going through as he wrote his music now, I was able
to hear Ocean’s music from a different artistic perspective. Unlike so many albums
which tell a sequential story, “channel ORANGE” has a different story for each track
that does not relate to the previous or following.

Ocean starts the album with an interlude of him talking which leads into his hit
single “Thinking About You.” I think he put that song there, just to get it out of
the way so you could open your mind for the rest of the album. He follows this
track with a 39 second interlude where he talks about taking everyone’s bullshit.
Ironically, he dealt with that a lot the week leading up to his album release. I
reached track 4 and start realize what Frank Ocean was doing with this album, and
that I must listen to each track as it’s own tale. It was on “Sierra Leone” where I
begin to appreciate the wonderful writer that Ocean is.

“Sweet Life” is the point in the night where I ask the bartender for my second drink
and I shake my head at the girl who is staring at me from across the room although
she knows I have a beautiful lady at home (“why see the world when you got the
beach?”). I go back to tapping my foot and zoning out to melody of this track and re
alize that everything is everything life. I then realize that Ocean just took me on a
ride to the other side of the fence and made see that grass isn’t greener, and sends
me on with musical solo. So yeah, you can definitely say that this is one my favorite
tracks, because it does the same thing to me every time.

The interlude of “Not Just Money” and “Super Rich Kids” go hand in hand as a
woman tells her man that she has no money and it’s not money that makes her
happy, and Ocean then sings about how much fun he has with money, but that all he
wants is real love. As BIG said “mo money…” While not a hard life, the life of a super
rich kid does have it’s loose ends.

Now as a man who has talked to women from different backgrounds, cultures, and
ideals, “Pilot Jones” takes me… Well, we have all had a pilot jones… And as the song
ends it plays the seat belt sound, because at some point it’s safe to land from that
pilot jones.

Anywho, “Crack Rock” takes me on a journey through the black plight, simple as
that. It is tough being black in America; we have so many obstacles against us.
This song speaks on how the unheard tales of struggle still exist amongst the black
community because no one is there to hear them. Next up is “Pyramid” which is
practically two songs in one. The first part talks about a love lost and the hunt
for ‘Cleopatra’ to regain this love is underway. The upbeat tempo of the first part
is a resemblance of the cheetah that Ocean refers too. The second parts slows all
the way down, and ‘Cleopatra’ is working him. It is almost as if the second part is a
flashback to when Ocean and ‘Cleopatra’ met and the first part is him losing her.

“Lost” takes the listener through a relationship with two parties who don’t know
where they are in life, but being lost together sounds blissfully fine. Ocean then
gets the guitar of John Mayer to fill the “White” space on the page of his album with
some soulful sounds that lead into “Monks.” This track was one I honestly got lost in
the music more than the words. However, the beauty of the lyrics is one not to pass
over. Ocean relates being a monk to being a in a committed relationship with the
woman you love so dearly. Whereas no one may agree with the extreme measure
you’re taking your commitment, it’s something you feel you must do.

After much play of “Bad Religion,” I can all but deduce that it is the song that
correlates with the letter than Ocean sent out via his Tumblr. The song itself if a
beautiful track of love, but how love with the wrong person can lead to down a
destructive path of future relationships; it was short and to the point.

I’m not sure if “Pink Matter” needs an explanation. I’ll say these few things:

-Majin Buu is a fat pink character from Dragon Ball Z
-Andre 3000 on a track title “Pink Matter” says it all

That’s all I have to say. On to the next track…

For “Forrest Gump,” I’ve listened to this song so many times, I’ve gone back and
forth on it. There are two choices here, either Ocean was writing about a past love or
his creative genius spoke from the voice of Jenny—Forest’s love interest. Either way,
the track is beautifully crafted.

With all that said, Frank Ocean did some amazing writing for this album. Regardless
how people feel about his sexuality, I believe that his love letter opened the eyes
of his true listeners to see beyond the grand scheme of music, and listen to exactly
what he had to say.

9.2/10

DIY: Distressed Tee’s and Tanks

Hello all! First, I sincerely want to apologize for my absence as I got a bit caught up in life and my blessings…It happens. Well I’m back with the unadulterated dopeness you all have come to expect from The Artistic Insanity’s #FNF feature.

I wanted to kill a few birds with one stone in this article. I’ve had the opportunity to meet some amazingly dope entrepreneurs who have each decided to use basic logo tee’s to promote their individual business ventures. I thought it would be a great idea to utilize their tee’s in this DIY (Do It Yourself) project, creating distressed tee’s and tanks. Nothing pleases me more than witnessing and promoting the success of my family and close friends. So with that being said make sure to check out the websites of the entrepreneurs featured and follow them on Twitter as well. It was also my intention with this article to step outside of the box and try something new and creative while providing you with a cool, new summer wardrobe staple.

What you will need for this DIY:

1. Your favorite lightweight new or preferably vintage tee

2. A pair of sharp scissors

This DIY is best when viewed via tutorial versus reading so I have included the three online tutorials I used to make the three styles you’ll see below. I added a few other details to my take on the featured tee’s with instructions below each video along with pics of the tee’s I created. I hope you all enjoy and have as much fun as I did with this DIY! A special thanks to @RebelDiva19 for the idea! She’s great…follow her latest venture @DoubleDutchInc for amazing tutorials along with her twin sis (hence the double) @FaithfullySASHA. Until next time, Be Bold. Be Dope. Be You! Extra Steps:

1. To create the fringed side effect, using your scissors poke 4-5 holes vertically on each side completely thru to the other side about an inch and a half apart.

2. Using one of the sleeves you cut off earlier, cut 4-5 strips of fabric following the longest length of the sleeve making them about half an inch wide.

3. Pull on the strips length wise until they begin to curl.

4. Insert the strips thru the holes tying them close to the body.

The LBD: A Styling Guide
Transcending over decades; circa Coco Chanel 1962, the little black dress has become the epitome
of timeless fashion. It is in many cases, the answer to every “What should I wear to…” question from
cocktail parties, to weddings, to date night, to a simple night out on the town.
As a concept, the little black dress represents an ideal of perfection, meant to be both simple and sexy
when styled accordingly. A fashion anomaly, the concept of the LBD does not change, much unlike
the trend-crazed industry. It remains the absolute height of chicness. It knows no social, style or size
boundaries. Whether it costs $1,000 or $5, is a size 2 or a size 22, it is still and will always be the
picture of perfection known as, you guessed it…the little black dress. Every woman should and wants to
own at least one, if not ten!
Through the years, the little black dress has undergone hemline, shoulder, strap and fabric variations.
The key is to find the perfect LBD to compliment your shape while providing you with an instant
boost of confidence. With every fashion conscious woman striving to be an individual in terms of
style and each of us honing our own shape, it is essential to take the time to find a dress that suits you
seamlessly.
I recently discussed this topic with my guy and his initial response was, “There is something about a
little black dress”. Men appreciate the simplicity of the LBD, especially when it fits to perfection. With
this article, I want to provide not only some tips on finding the best LBD to compliment your shape but
also to provide a few styling tips once you’ve added this essential wardrobe staple to your repertoire.

1. Slim, less curvy silhouette.
If you have a shape that lacks some curves, is very athletic built and have a long torso with no
definition in your waist, there are specific styles with you in mind. Look for a LBD that will give the
illusion that you have a cinched waist such as one that has a tie or a belt along the waist. An empire
waist or a dress with ruching can also give off the illusion of having more of an hourglass figure.

2. Heavier Bust line.
If you have a larger bust, you don’t want to mask it completely but you do want to leave something to
the imagination. Stay away from plunging necklines and instead stick with a box or high neckline to
create a very sophisticated look. To even things out a bit, you can wear a LBD that has a flowing or a-
line skirt. This will give the illusion that both your top and bottom are equally proportioned.

3. Heavier in the Hip Area.
A larger bottom is easy to disguise with the right LBD especially because black is so slimming. Stay
away from any dress that has a lot of emphasis on the bottom such as ruching or ruffles. Instead you
should stick with a straight skirt, shying away from materials that are too clingy. Make sure you are
able to have a little breathing room. The top of the dress should be billowy, so it will bring emphasis to
the bust instead of drawing attention solely to the bottom.

4. Curvy Silhouette
If you are a woman who is blessed with curves all over then you need a dress that is fitted with a v-
neck. This shouldn’t be overly tight, but fitted nicely so that the dress hugs your curves just right. You
can always stick with a dress that has a little bit of a flare at the bottom as well.

5. Heavier Mid-Section
If you’re looking to camouflage your tummy, then you need a dress that will give the illusion of a
flatter stomach. To get this look, pick a LBD with an empire waist as it will bring emphasis to the bust
and neckline and is not tightly fitted on the tummy. You can also wear a wrap dress that is fitted but
make sure that it does not fit too snug.

Now that you’ve discovered which silhouette fits best for you, it’s time to glam it up! The LBD carries
accessories extremely well. Trending the last few seasons has been the statement necklace. Keep it
classic with a cluster of pearls or add a pop of color with a bold chunky necklace. Remember to always
use the neckline of your dress as a guide. When it comes to earrings, focus on the event you plan
to attend. While a simple pearl or diamond stud may be more appropriate for a wedding, consider a
dangled or embellished pair for a night out on the town. Same general rules apply to wrist wear, with
stacking being a fabulous trend this season. Want to stand out amongst a sea of little black dresses?
There are three must have accessories that are sure to push you to the forefront; Pair the perfect heels,
with the perfect oversized clutch or over the shoulder bag, finishing the look with an eye catching lip
shade and you are ready to rip the runway!

I’ve included a few examples of my favorite LBD’s for your viewing pleasure along with a candid shot
of yours truly from my recent vacay in Vegas rocking my very own LBD. Until next time, Be Bold. Be
Dope. Be You! Follow me on Twitter @JustAriii

A How-To Guide: Jumpsuits and Rompers:
Jumpsuits have been around for decades while rompers are more of a recent trend, yet both are staple pieces for any fashion conscious woman looking to go chic for Spring/Summer 2012. Today, the styles have changed, but the jumpsuit and romper is back and more glamorous than ever. This look flatters most figures by creating a slimming effect and can be either casual or sophisticated, depending on the accessories and shoes that are selected to compliment the fit. So how does a woman find a jumpsuit that suits her curves and individuality the best? There are a few things you should consider before purchasing your romper or jumpsuit.

Jumpsuit or Romper?
First, determine which type of suit aesthetically appeals to you most or would fit you the best. A romper is normally a jumper with shorts, while a jumpsuit usually has pants. Both types can either have short sleeves, sleeveless or strapless depending on your style choice. Both types can be worn as a casual fit or for an upscale feel, and can be paired with different accessories to achieve the desired look.

Try It On.
To find a good fit, you should try on all jumper/romper styles and sizes. Each fits completely differently than a dress, a pair of pants, or shorts. If you are looking for a jumpsuit with pants, make sure you check the length to ensure they are not too long or too short. Try them on with flats and heels to get a good idea of the length and if they will need to be hemmed. A tailor is easily accessible if need be so do not count pieces out solely based on length. You should also try to sit down and walk around in the jumper to see if it is too tight to sit or too long when standing. The wrong size jumpsuit can be extremely unflattering. You want to accentuate your shape, not hide or distort it!

Color and Texture.
Floral and prints can be overbearing at times, so depending on the design, it may be best to stick with solid colors as they tend to flatter the figure. Darker colors and jumpers without patterns can minimize anything you may be self conscious about and would prefer to conceal, such as a heavier bottom half or tummy. Choosing the appropriate hue for your shape is extremely important since a jumper can cling to certain areas of the body and each type of fabric—jersey, silk or satin—hugs a woman’s curves in different ways. Solid colors are also best to pair bold accessories with.

Casual and Chic VS. Sexy and Sophisticated
Both jumpsuits and rompers can be casual, depending on the fabric type and the accessories worn with it. To keep your solid print jersey romper cool and casual, wear flat sandals, such as gladiators and minimal jewelry. Throw on a fedora for added flair!
Satin is very sexy and upscale, also perfect for a hot summer night. You’re able to stay cool and still look sophisticated. In order to make this look work the best, pair the satin romper with fun bold accessories, such as a chunky necklace and clutch. Work some high-heeled sandals with this fit to really bring it up a notch!

For a slimming, go anywhere look, a jumpsuit will normally do just the trick. The style is lean and long because of the vertical lines the suit establishes on the body. So the next time you’re worried about what you are going to wear to a outdoor picnic or a nighttime get together, opt for a romper or jumpsuit for a fabulous and simple look. The Maxi Dress: An Effortless Sexy

On my radar this season is none other than the maxi dress. Chic, simple, yet the epitome of sexy. What more can a woman desire to be? Long, flowy silhouettes are striking a chord with the fashion crowd’s trend setters for Spring/Summer 2012. Get inspiration on how to wear a maxi dress and shop my picks here.

Throw these fits on with a couple of accessories and you’re guaranteed to turn heads! The right maxi dress is a quick and fashionable answer to a new summer wardrobe. It’s easy on the wallet and the most comfortable way to look gorgeous this season.

Whether you choose eye-catching prints or solid colors, pair it with a long necklace, chunky bracelets, or your favorite timepiece, top it with a fedora or oversized sunglasses, give it some lift with a heel or keep it down to earth with some strappy gladiator flats, your maxi dress is guaranteed to look fab. The elegant femininity of the maxi dress is what attracts so many women to it: it makes you feel comfortable, free and sexy— all at the same time. Also ladies, the fellas are guaranteed to take notice. Trust me on this one!

Added bonus? It covers up pretty much any part of you that you wish not to expose. A maxi dress will conceal every thigh lump and tummy bump. Add a cardigan or cropped blazer if you want to cover your arms or just to keep warm. However, don’t button it up! Instead, let the hanging line of the cardigan or blazer compliment the silhouette line of the dress.

This year’s summer fashion trends lean towards feminine and romantic styles and colours, with pastels, floral patterns and ruffles making the biggest impact. Your maxi dress can incorporate all of these trends. Or try to find a simple maxi dress with classic lines and solid colours that expresses timeless style.

One golden rule to remember when picking and wearing a maxi dress is to avoid looking like a tent. In order to do this, choose a maxi that cinches at the waist or under the bust. You can use a waist belt to create this silhouette, or simply find an empire cut dress. Remember, the dress is the statement piece, so don’t over-do it. The beauty of the maxi dress lies in the fact that it offers high impact eye candy for very little effort so let it be the center piece of your fit.

Quit Asking For Free Work!!!

As a creative, there is nothing more frustrating than people who always want quality work for free or “promo” as they would call it. I’ve heard it thousands of times. They want professional pictures for free and in return “it’ll get your name out there.” Harlan Ellison took the words right out of my mouth.

Tyga – Careless World: Rise of The Last King Review

Tyga comes into 2012 with a lot of steam. After dropping multiple mixtapes, collaborating with Chris Brown, and showcasing his talents next to Young Money heavyweights, it is finally his turn. Tyga does not disappoint, however he does not exceed expectations either. Careless World: Rise of The Last King should be considered the album before the album. I predict Tyga’s next album will define him. Careless World: Rise of The Last King has its bright spots in “Rack City”, “Faded”, and “Make it Nasty” (If you get theiTunes bonus tracks). But at times he sounds too commercial on the collaborations with Chris Brown, and Chris Richardson. Tyga struggles with his flow at times; he impresses us all on “I’m Gone” featuring Big Sean. It sounds like a Drake track but he makes it his own. Since we’re mentioning Drake, listeners might here a little Aubrey influenced in Tyga’s intro song, and even in his interludes. Tyga finally has found his niche with club records, but he has to deliver strong bars to accompany them, and other songs. The album is set up like any other typical YMCMB album, so expect some commercial songs that don’t fit Tyga. One thing about the album that should not be overlooked is that it is West Coast! That’s right; memories of B Real, Tupac, and other old West Coast artist can be heard in Tyga’s voice. Tyga is not yet complete, but Careless World: Rise of The Last King will give him an opportunity for a sequel.

February 18, 2012 11:07PM

I write this with tears in my eyes at 3 something in the morning, excuse typos and grammatical errors.

I see someone on my TL tweet at 11:04PM that me Nikko died. I asked her “Who?” In that minute or so I was asking for my question I was hoping she somehow knew a different Nikko as horrible as that might sound, its true. She said, “Peel. Nicholas Peel.” I was still in shock. Couldn’t be MY Nikko, I just talked to him yesterday. His last tweet to me and the last one he’ll ever send was a movie recommendation. Nikko has always been a silent big brother figure in my life. I remember being in middle school and meeting CJ, who I unknowingly knew from my childhood and with him was always Jeremy and this giant of a man who always had headphone around his neck. Nikko never let people pressure him into being something that he wasn’t. He was Nikko and that alone. Nikko was always….its killing me to type “was”….bigger than everyone else, that’s probably why he had a bigger heart than almost anyone I ever knew. They always tried to pressure him to play football, but that wasn’t Nikko so he didn’t do it. I remember distinctly spending a good portion of my middle and high school years with these three. Nikko ended up transferring to a different high school, but we never lost touch. Even when he went to OSU for a year, we stayed in touch. He hated it there and told me he was gonna go to Houston for school. Although, I wish he’d have been closer I said go for it. Nikko was one of the smartest men I’ve ever met. If it had anything to do with electronics, he could figure it out. It didn’t matter what it was. So when I was having issues trying to figure out edit the new site, I turned to him. He happily obliged and helped me out as he often did. That’s just who he was. So if I have EVER done any website work for ANY of you, you can thank Nikko. If Nikko could help you, he would. That’s just who he was. When I say Nikko had a big heart and was a genius, I mean it. He was so interested in so many things and if he ever thought he saw something that was up your alley, you can bet you’d have a link in just about no time. He knew that Kevin & I were interested in money management so he’d send me links on the regular. I’ll miss those. My favorite link he ever sent me was about the writer/inventor of the comic strip “Dilbert” and how he basically says that students need to get a real education by learning how to run a business. See? Sounds just like something I’d be interested in. He sent me a tweet that said “@ArtisticInsaniT Saw this: http://tinyurl.com/3skgwdz and thought hmmm sounds like some Phillip shit.” That’s what I’ll remember about Nikko. Not to mention he was probably one of the funniest sarcastic people I’ve ever been around. Between him, CJ & Jaren they sharpened my wit at a young age. I owe them all for that. After hearing of Nikko’s passing, my heart stopped. It hurts, but with family and friends I’ll get through it. Nikko somehow had one last trick up his sleeve after he passed. I hadn’t spoken to CJ in about 2 or 3 years which to some might seem impossible because from 11-18 or so we were inseparable. As soon as I got the news about Nikko, I did what I hadn’t had the courage to do. I called CJ and amended our differences. Thanks Nikko. For everything. For the advice, the laughs, the links and so much more. You were such a blessing in my life and I will forever appreciate and love you for that big bro. I think God got a little selfish and realized he couldn’t wait to have you back so he took you a little early, but who can blame him? You were an amazing truly genuine person.

Rest in Peace

From Jaren & Pheno, we love you bro.

Nobody should EVER out work you. Period.

After having some time alone with my thoughts, I came to the conclusion that nobody should EVER out work you. From the time you’re born until the time you die, you can work. It may not always be a job, but you can always be working at something whether it be school, sports or your hobbies. It bothers me to see my generation with this preconceived notion that everything in life is easy and doesn’t take hard work. The problem with our generation is that we’ve never had to work for anything. There hasn’t been a huge civil rights battle. We haven’t had to deal with the horrors of slavery. As a generation, what happened that we had to work to change? I can’t think of anything. I’m sick of everyone shouting how they’re going to be a millionaire but they refuse to do the work. Hell, I doubt half of you even KNOW how to work. Far too many lack ambition, patience and the work ethic. You may not be the fastest, smartest or the strongest, but you can work like you are. I’ll be damned if I lose a position to another person because they out worked me. Could you imagine losing a 6 figure job because you couldn’t stay off Facebook for 1 hour to read the company manual? Me either. Even when I procrastinate I’m working. *insert shameless plug* ( http://www.theartisticinsanity.com/ ). I challenge ever single one of you to REFUSE to let anyone EVER work harder than you. No days off.

I wrote this over a year ago, but I have to go back & read it when I need a kick in the pants.

AI Update

If you haven’t seen much of use in the past month or two its because we were preparing for Jaren to take his trip to China. Yes, he went to Italy in the summer, but you can never travel enough. Hopefully he’s over there taking pics if not we’ll be fighting on sight. Regardless, we’ll get things back in full swing in the upcoming weeks. Stay up.

NBA Lockout Update

Here’s basically what’s going on. The Player’s Association feels that instead of take a “fair” deal from the owners, they’d rather go to court. From the anti-trust lawyers they’ve spoken to it seems they would win the case. That would be all fine and dandy except for the fact that court cases take a LONG time. If we as fans are lucky this will be resolved in 6 months, but realistically we’re talking a year or so bare minimum. If this lawsuit is actually filed before a deal can be met, say goodbye to your 2011-2012 NBA Season.
